Yosemite

A few days after Christmas Jason and I drove to Yosemite with Claire and Nina to spend a few days with Jason's brother Aron and his family. The drive from Stanford took about four hours and took us through some gorgeous mountain passes. The drive went extremely well until the final few miles through a particularly curvy section of mountain road. As we hit this part it started to snow heavily, and the girls became extremely quiet and tried to snuggle up to me. I misinterpreted this silence as their appreciation for the stunning views ahead of us. Instead, the silence heralded a simultaneous twin motion sickness episode.

We pulled over to the side of the road to change their soaked clothes, which was a challenge as we had to juggle the naked, wet, and squirmy babies and the thick falling snow. This was definitely one of those parenting experiences which just ends up being funny and after we got back into the car, Jason and I had a good laugh.

Arriving at the cabin we were greeted by the girls' cousins Owen and Harrison. The boys were extremely good with the girls and showered them with hugs. We spend the next few days relaxing with family and taking day trips down into Yosemite valley to play in the snow and enjoy the gorgeous waterfalls and rock formations.

The girls were a bit confused by the snow at first and were too scared to touch it. They did their best to walk through it, but had a hard time balancing in their bulky (but adorable!) snow gear. Claire's in front in the picture and there's a short video of Nina walking in the snow below.

It was wonderful to see Harrison and Owen with the girls. The girls were fascinated with the boys and enjoyed following them around and watching them play. Claire and Nina also warmed up quickly to their Uncle Aron, Aunt Christine, and to Christine's mother. The girls always had someone to play with them, hold them, or read to them and they really appreciated all of the attention.

Here's a video of Harrison (3 years old) with Claire (pink shirt) and Nina (brown shirt).
