High risk OB consult

By default, all twin pregnancies (and especially identical twin pregnancies) are characterized as high risk. Our current OB is great and while she's dealt with twins before, high risk pregnancies aren't her specialty. As such, she referred us to have a consultation with a perinatologist (high risk OB). We had our appointment yesterday and it went really well. The doctor had a lot of information about the new, cutting edge techniques for treating TTTS** (should that happen) and other info about the important differences between a twin and a singleton pregnancy. She will be monitoring our ultrasounds with our regular OB to make sure everything keeps going well from now on.

We had a quick ultrasound also, but since it was with a hand held machine, we didn't get any pictures. The OB did say that they look like girls though. We've got a detailed anatomy scan scheduled in two weeks (pregnancy week 18) and that should settle the question once and for all (though at this point, I'd put the odds at 95% girls).

**TTTS is "twin twin transfusion syndrome" which happens in about 10-15% of identical twins. It involves unequal sharing of the single placenta and makes one baby grow quickly at the expense of the other. No evidence of this yet for us, everything looks good so far.

95%? so you're saying there's still a chance I'll have some football players to throw the ball to!

well, even if they're girls, I can teach them to catch footballs if their father doesn't first....... and, NO!, teaching them virtual football doesn't count!

love you ALL!
