The girls just finished their first birthday celebration complete with hats, balloons (thanks Nana!) and cupcakes. While I was out getting the cupcakes from a yummy specialty cupcake place...lucky bebes... Nana dressed the girls in white party dresses, chosen to color-match the impending vanilla cupcakes. We put the girls in their birthday hats and presented the balloons, which were a big hit. The girls squealed with delight when they saw them and they both had fun trying to grab them and chomp on them. Nina got a hold of one and gave it a big hug, which was pretty cute.
After this initial hat/balloon phase, I lit the candles, brought out the cupcakes, and we sang Happy Birthday to them in English and French. With Jason behind the camcorder and Nana taking photos, I introduced each girl to a cupcake. Claire immediately destroyed it. She smashed it and ground it into her tray, causing as much mess as she could (very Claire). Nina, on the other hand, daintily grabbed small bits of frosting with her hand and starting eating. She didn't dig into the cake itself, and instead carefully grabbed little bits off to eat. After a while, Nina flung the cupcake onto the floor, which she found hilarious.
