Claire's recent attempts at vocalization involve grunting and growling. She sounds like a wild animal and it's very strange to see such aggressive noises come out of such a tiny baby.
She's also started growling and grabbing at Nina and sometimes it looks to us like she's trying to assert her dominance as the alpha twin. I think she's just hoping for a growl back from her sister, but Nina is usually too polite to respond.
I also witnessed Claire stealing a toy from Nina for the first time. I'm sure this is just a taste of things to come...

Definitely, our little Claire sometimes growls with abandon and Nina does not (yet?) but I have seen Nina "steal" a toy from Claire yesterday without incident; sitting face to face on the floor, Claire was cooing and Nina laughing in response and there was a lot of interaction, grabbing hands, "kissing", mouth fully opened; there is never a dull moment for this Nana!
I just watched these videos with Peter (now 1.5 years old)and now he started to imitate you girls. There's all kinds of growling and face chewing going on--he's even riffing with some knee and shoulder chewing. Poor kid lacks a sibling, though, so it's my face/knees/shoulders. The third video just made him laugh--we had to watch it twice.
Thanks so much!
Catherine
