The girls had their two month checkup yesterday and are doing well. Nina weighed 10lbs 3oz, and Claire weighed 10lb 8oz. They're about average when it comes to height and weight without adjusting for their prematurity. Both girls were pretty cooperative with the doctor when it came to basic checks including heartbeat, weight, etc. They were even good when it came their first rectal temperature. Generally, we had two happy, relaxed bebes...that is, until the doctor left and a nurse came in with a pile of needles for their immunizations.
The first immunization was oral and was given in a sugary syrup. They seemed to enjoy it and Nina even sucked it out directly from the plastic tube. After being lulled into a false sense of security, the girls received the remainder of the immunizations through five injections each. I was surprised how large the needles were--no bebe-sized needles here. The injections were given into their thighs and let's just say the girls were not happy about it. They screamed and cried and sounded a lot like angry little piggies as Nana pointed out. They actually looked a bit like little piggies too, as they got extremely redish pink as they got progressively more angry. The girls did relax a bit once we got home, but each needed some extra time in our arms for the rest of the day.

Hahaha - loved the piggies remark. Very descriptive! You know, Isabel was really quite stoic from a young age about her shots... but my big, strapping son Ashe, he's a different story. Definitely squealed like a little piggy himself! Luckily, the 2-month shot series is the most they get at one time. :) And nope, they won't remember it... but oh, how we will!
