Claire Helene Woertink was the first twin to be born and weighed 7lbs 13oz at birth (big bebe!). As soon as she was lifted out of me, she was taken to the NICU (ICU for babies) as she has swallowed a lot of fluid. She had what's called a CPAP (like a tiny bebe oxygen mask) which helped her push out all that fluid and after passing several tests (and about 12 hours), she went to the special care nursury to make a full recovery. I never got to see her at this stage, but Jason and the future grandparents were able to be with her.
Once in the special care nursery, she joined her sister and they two were put in neighboring basinets. She recovered very quickly and I was able to meet her face first during my first visit to special care.

Claire went home with Jason and me on Sunday afternoon. We swaddled her and put her in the crib while unpacking and within a minute, our little premie baby had managed to pick up her head and rotate her whole body onto her side...one step away from chest-sleeping which is now considered very unsafe. Jason and I looked at eachother and he rushed out to the store to buy sleep positioners :)
Claire has lots of awake time--she opens her eyes and has started to synchronize her eye movements. She's been an incredibly easy baby and just cries when she's hungry (dirty diapers don't seem to phase her which has been interesting). She's in premie clothes and diapers at the moment and has very long legs like her mother. She's already had her first visit to the pediatrician and we're all acclimating well to life together.
