24 week OB appointment

My 24 week OB appointment started like any other...step 1 get urine sample (mission accomplished, I'm proud to say!), step 2 step on scale, step 3 see look of confusion on nurse's face as she fiddles with the scale..."This can't be right", she muttered, as she repositioned the scale and pushed the bars around. Not a good start to the appointment :) It turns out that the scale wasn't beeing unnecessarily cruel, I gained 9 (count them, 9!) pounds since my last check. Now that would be fine if my last check had been 4 weeks or so ago, but that was only two weeks ago!

My OB attributed the large gain to a sudden dramatic increase in water retention. I suppose all of the intense thirst I've been having lately makes sense, and she said it's nothing to worry about. One of the down sides of this new bloating is that my fingers (becoming more and more hotdog-like) can no longer support my wedding ring, and it's been put in temporary storage. I miss it already.

On the plus side, the bebes look great and my belly is now measuring 36-weeks! (Singleton scale). Things are starting to move fast--my OB started encouraging me to get car seats and register at the hospital just in case I go into early labor....craziness!
